Common Ground Foundation began in August 2022 on the Downs of Queensland, inspired by three women who saw someone close to them spend weeks away from home with young children for medical care. They each understood how hard it is to be far from home during tough times and wanted to help. In November 2022, we organised our first Ride for a Roof and that is how Common Ground Foundation originated.

Three women from Queensland created Common Ground Foundation: a mother, her daughter, and their friend. Living in the Western Downs and Darling Downs, they understand rural life's challenges. They know what it means to travel long distances for medical care, sometimes for weeks, with young children or loved ones left behind. This lived experience guides everything we do. We greet every family with empathy and kindness, because we have walked that journey ourselves.

Common Ground Foundation’s units are in Toowoomba, Queensland. We offer three self-contained, two-bedroom units for families who need to travel or relocate for medical treatment. Toowoomba is home to three hospitals, both public and private: Toowoomba Hospital, St Vincent’s Private Hospital Toowoomba and St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital. We support patients and their families from across the region, including people travelling from across Queensland and northern New South Wales, so they can stay close to one another and the care they need. When you’re far from home, we hope you’ll find a little bit of family here.
